The finished illustration! I tried to use some effects I hadn't typically worked with to touch up the image, like Perlian noise, chromatic aberration, distance blur and fish-eye distortion
the initial draft of the background of the alleyway, blocked out in perspective.
greyed out background with added details sketched in, as well as the figured for the two characters in view. trying out different angles, poses, trying to find a waay to make characters fit into their space
fleshing out the characters in the scene a bit, playing with the idea of a third character on the top. Ultimately the character blocked the sky and I wanted the view of the sky open.
blocking out some shadows in the background, defining character design a bit more. Also, placing the title of the image closer to the 'camera', as I wanted the title to feel like part of the background somehow.
narrowed down the composition more, to give the picture a stronger sense of suspense and drag the viewer's attention to the center of the alleyway.
finalized character designs closeup, unshaded, uncolored. I wanted the characters to feel modern but strange, like they could appear to be modern in a world where things are very strange.
background blocked out with colors, general shading for the feeling of the piece. this is where I played a bit with the mood, trying out different colors of lighting and different extremes
A cover illustration for a personal project surrounding investigators in a very strange modern city where hellish, dimensional, or otherwise supernatural abnormalities are commonplace but no less dangerous.
This illustration started as background practice, and it slowly evolved into a full illustration by the end.
